You can’t take a picture of this. It’s already gone.
Imitation is life’s worst crime.

Yesterday I packed away all of my books to make room for a dresser. I only left out what hasn’t been read yet. It was only about 6 books. In middle school I used to write boys’ names on the underside of the shelves in pencil when I liked them. In high school, I dragged the bookshelf outside to the driveway. I gave it a fresh coat of white paint and painted over all of those loopy names. Before I left for college, I selected my favorite books to bring with me. I only picked books I had already read, but to bring along like I would bring a friend, trusted and familiar. Packing away those books was like laying memories to rest. Every page and every word, representative of a different time in life. Some of those books have been on the shelf since my middle school days. My room feels empty without them. I feel like I’m missing something.

One of my favorite books of all time. Have had several different copies with several different covers, but never this one.
